NW Improve Construction Ltd had won the tender to demolish and clear the site at Leyton, High Road, East London, the building was used as a mosque and pre-school. It was a traditional brick and block construction rising 2.5 storeys high and spanning 1250 metres square. This demolition project was challenging as the building was situated on Leyton high road with close proximity to schools, shops, a medical centre, and residential buildings.
We undertook all CDM duties and responsibilities as the main contractor. The project had five different phases after all M&E services were disconnected. These were soft striping, asbestos removal, above ground demolition, below ground demolition and site clearance. After the complete demolition of the building the client instructed us to crush all crushable materials arising from the demolition to use as a piling mat, working with our partners a 30 ton crusher was deployed to site to undertake the crushing works.
The client extended NW Improve Construction Ltd.’s contract after the demolition was completed, to undertake further principal contractor roles for the piling contractor and other package contractors. Inception of the project was in July 2014 and it was completed in March 2015.
